Auditions for “Spider’s Web” an Agatha Christie Play
Auditions for upcoming performances of the Agatha Christie mystery/thriller “Spider’s Web” will be held November 26, 27 and 28, 4:30-6:30, at the Gladwin Community Building, with Jacque Lott Mattes, directing. This great Christie play will be performed by area teens (ages 13-19) through the GAFTeen repertoire company of Gladwin Area Friends of the Theatre (GAFT). There are roles for 9 males and 3 females. No prepared material is necessary as all readings will be done from scripts.
Critics said of the 1954 premier, “ [Spider’s Web] is a conscious parody of the detective thriller, Christie delivers a unique blend of suspense and humor. There is tension and laughter in equal parts in an intricate plot of murder, police, drug addicts, invisible ink, hidden doorways and secret drawers! Suspense, anyone?”
Spider’s Web tells the story of Clarissa, wife of a diplomat, who is adept at spinning tales of adventure but when a murder takes place in her drawing room, she finds live drama much harder to cope with. Desperate to dispose of the body before her husband arrives with an important politician, she enlists the help of her guests. Hilarity ensues when they are interrupted by the arrival of wry detective, Inspector Lord.
The show will rehearse through the holidays (scheduled for maximum free time) and into the new year. Performances are January 24, 25 and 26, 2019, 7:00 p.m. with an extra 2:00 matinee performance on the 26th. Tickets are $10 pp. If you have further questions, conflicts, or just want to volunteer your time during the show, please call or text Jacque Lott Mattes, (989)404-0644.
